 Above the Line Advertising Idea: Advertising to Masses in Marriages

In India, every year min. 4.5 millions to max. 10 millions marriages take place. Marriages are generally a once in a life-time occasion for a man or a woman. So, many people like to spend heavily in it. Expenditures in catering, clothing, housing, fashion and what not. Not less than 25 lakhs to 30 lakhs are spent by a person in a marriage. Banks even provide loans for performing marriages and they charge heavy interest rates for that. Well, starting a new phase of life with debt burden on head... That surely would not be a great start of the new phase.... But, people want to spend a lot. They wish to make the event the most memorable event of their life. Best of catering, fireworks, drinks, Disco Jockeys etc... People want it all.. And yes, not to forget; marriages are not meant for 10 or 20 or 30 guests; but, guests are invited in denominations of 100... Well, can we not think of some better ways of conforming such a huge expense?? Is there any way out to deal with such huge expense without taking much headache??

I think there is a way out... As said, "need is the mother of invention"; I think the heavy expense of marriage can be dealt well; if we commercialize the event... Companies can see marriages as a potential place to advertise their products... Companies ought to get the maximum attention of the invitees for their product... For e.g.: for clothing used in marriages, clothes and dresses are purchased from a particular store or of a particular brand. The store owner or the brand can think of sponsor some amount to that marriage and get attention of the target market. This can be done for jewelery, catering etc...

But,this has a serious short coming. How much should the store or brand really sponsor?? What is the right amount?? Whom to sponsor?? How much of the target audience really turn out to be potential and final consumers?? All such questions shall come up... Firstly, obviously not all marriages can be sponsored. As, finding sponsors for 4.5 to 10 million marriages...lolss...is not a very east task. So, here again, there will be two types of sponsors. One, who are very new to the industry to which they cater to and do not mind spending on a place where it can catch attention and the second type, big brands will sponsor only marriages of people who are well known to the public.. Now, how should a business or a company or a store really determine in which marriage to sponsor?? Here, the business units need to look into: how many people are invited to the marriage, what category do the majority of the invitees belong to(lower middle, middle, higher middle and high class), and how much time will event last??

If the business that is willing to sponsor is well satisfied with all of the above factors, then it can think of sponsoring a marriage and having small outlets providing information and banners in the marriage place.

This is just an idea... Nitty-grtties needs yet to be dealt with..
